Spring Cleaning is no joke

Photography by Allison Milne
Naturally there is this urge around spring time to purge and rejuvenate. I have tossed bags and bags of clothes I have touched maybe once in the last three years – I am sure I am not the only one, but after having our Ella I held on to a bunch of pieces assuring myself I would make use of them the following summer…then came another pregnancy and now my new post two kiddos body and more things have got to go! I swear a little fairy went into my bins and shrunk the clothing I had stashed down to child sizes. NOTHING fits and every time I toss another item to the floor as I pout all I see is dollar signs in my head…I need a new wardrobe. I find myself investing in more expensive every day pieces these days vs the inexpensive stores. Even for tees, I am incredibly tired of buying a bunch of cheaper pieces and they shrink or distort/wear after 2 uses…by splurging on pricier (but higher quality) items less frequently they are lasting me MUCH longer. Who would think an oversized tee could cost you around $75!?! I didn’t, but if you buy an expensive one from a credible brand- boy oh boy you will live in that tee! Loving this one right now by Revolve Clothing and this one from Nordstrom.
Our posts have mainly focused on the house and little ones for months now as I wasn’t really ready to get in front of the camera again but next month we are starting with some fresh fashion posts! I am looking forward to sharing some great, comfortable and fashionable styles with you that are perfect for mommy’s but not secluded to. I will also have a “Save or Splurge” segment beginning where I share with you some of my favourite pieces in two different price range. There will be a lot of distressed denim, hats (you know I love my hats), skirts, dresses and of course shoes! Styles that can work for every day wear and merge into the evening when accessorized properly. When I was a stylist in New Zealand I LOVED styling together ensembles for women of all shapes & styles and I miss it really. Later this summer I will be starting some FAQ posts where you lovelies can ask me some questions via email with photos if you’d like about any fashion/style queries you may need advice on. Back to spring cleaning – what are some tips you might have for keeping clutter out of your closets? I remembering reading something a couple of years back where a woman recommended tying a ribbon on a hanger of an item you put in a “I will wear this someday” section of the closet and date it, if you haven’t touched it in a year…purge lady, purge!!!! Spring cleaning isn’t only for our closets however, as I mentioned up top I have been feeling a little ick in my skin with all of the changes after having our second child and the nasty winter we are FINALLY exiting. I am working hard to drink more water first thing in the morning and tons more all day as well and cut out my refined sugars. I also had been slacking in the fresh juicing department so that has kicked back into high gear and my skin and mind are truly appreciating it. I’ll be sharing a review on the blog in two weeks time on some Young Living oils I was sent courtesy of beautiful mama blogger Kaylan at Emerald Homestead Blog, very interesting stuff…including, just maybe a giveaway (not so subtle hint).
I am looking forward to a beautiful & healthy spring with you all! xo
