Office Teaser

I have been plugging away at my office since May now, here and there figuring out exactly what needs to go where…and that of course changes, every time I go in! There is a little opening in the wall of my office looking into the hallway, well it isn’t exactly little – I needed a canvas that was roughly 4ft x 5ft to cover it…2 canvases so we could cover the opening on both sides. This room is meant to be a dining room but after Craig built the eat-in kitchen bench I was able to have this room as a space just for me to blog and work on my DIY projects. You see, I didn’t want Craig to close it off for re-sale value, just in case we decide to sell this house vs keeping it to rent and purchase another. If you haven’t been following us from the beginning, we are on a trend of buying homes and creating income properties in the basement…yes just like you see on Income Property! In our last house Craig built a separate entrance and an entire apartment in the basement which we rented for a year while living there. In the end we decided to sell the property vs keeping it as we really didn’t want to hold onto a property in that area…so, we made money, paid of some debt and started fresh (with the same plan) with this house we are currently in. With Craig working on this basement and SO many areas of the house sometimes my office just has to take a back seat, so as I said I plug away when I can on the jobs I can manage with a toddler running around and baby on my hip.

Wow- I’ve gone slightly off track here haven’t I? Okay, so I bought two massive canvases in the hopes of covering up the opening stylishly. On the hallway side I will be letting Ella finger paint something wonderful this weekend and on the office side I did a washi tape collage – inspiration courtesy of Ashley Davidson from Ashley Davidson Design. Ashley picked me up some printed paper from Michaels and Carousel Paper generously sent me a bunch of washi tape to collage with. I gathered some of my favourite photos I had printed last year, some magazine cut outs, a heart shaped piece of one of Ella’s colouring books and even some of our Kings of Leon concert tickets (one of our first dates) and my plane ticket from New Zealand. I even added some of the very first thank you cards from brands we have worked with, all of this to encourage me and remind me why I love doing what I do! Ashley showed me that you can use such a variety of pieces in these washi tape walls, just use your imagination and add or remove as time passes! We will be shooting the rest of the office at the end of the month and I can’t wait to share it with you! Until then, here is a sneak peek and do not forget that we are posting the Nursery reveal on the blog later this week where you will see another washi tape wall Ashley put together for us. xo
