Our Countertops: Silestone by Cosentino

Good morning guys!! I hope your week is going well and Happy International Women’s Day!!!

I am so excited today to be chatting with you about our countertops in our kitchen from Silestone® by Cosentino. We are constantly getting questions about our countertops in the new kitchen and for a good reason, they look like marble but they are quartz. Meaning I can have that look of Calacatta Gold that I wanted without the worry of my messy kitchen habits ruining it ;). With 2 kids that love to be in the kitchen as much as us and of course we love entertaining, Silestone was the perfect product for our family & our home project. We love it so much we even put it in our laundry room – it’s so durable and easy to clean without sacrificing the look I wanted. Our stone is from Silestone’s Eternal Series called Calacatta Gold.

What is Silestone? “Silestone is a combination of natural quartz and other raw materials that are extraordinarily hard and resilient. These characteristics combine to create an ideal surface for kitchen countertops, bathrooms, flooring and wall cladding.” Silestone has many uses in your home or for commercial products. You can use it for fireplace designs, kitchens, washrooms and they even have sinks!!

We also got the suede finish with I feel gives it that honed marble look, it has a lovely velvetty finish that we love. They have 3 different finishes however that you can pick from, polished, suede and volcano. I love the look of the volcano finish with their Soapstone from the Eternal Series.

Polished:It’s the original Silestone® polished quartz surface. The look and feel that stands the test of time. With glimmering radiance and the smooth feel of natural stone, Silestone’s original polished surface remains popular throughout the world. This deep and pure surface shows Silestone quartz with elegance and clarity.

Suede: The extra matte velvety texture. Suede finished is a remarkable textured surface that offers a uniquely soft touch and effect that is pure beauty and elegance. The Suede finish maintains the same well-known properties as the polished Silestone texture, with a superior resistance to stains and marks.

Volcano: Volcano is the new Silestone texture; a soft and rustic texture, Volcano is the result of an R&D effort to find an attractive surface that answers the market demand by extending the offer for those who love the rugged materials.

Trust me guys, I searched around for a YEAR to find the stone I wanted. I knew we wanted quartz – I wanted that durability, that easy to clean no stress stone but I wanted the look of marble and I wouldn’t stop searching until I found the one that mimicked the marble look perfectly. I remember texting my friend Ashley Davidson an Interior Designer telling her that I found the perfect quartz but I had originally wanted marble, she gave me her opinion on quartz right away and assured me it was the best choice!

” Quartz is our go to counter top product. There are so many great quartz suppliers that have been able to create the look and design of a marble with the durability of a quartz stone. If you are an avid cook or have littles the durability of a quartz can’t be beat. Stains and messes are easy to wipe up and you don’t have to worry about the acidity eating away at your stone. A good quartz manufacturer also offers a great warranty which can always give you a great piece of mind when investing in a higher end product” – Ashley Davidson

With over 100 colours to pick from, I was immediately drawn to their newest Eternal Series. I loved their Calacatta Gold, Serena, Soapstone and Marquina. All 4 colours are made with the Silestone N Boost stain resistant finish (life saver)!!!

We are constantly receiving compliments on our stone in the kitchen, I made it the focal point by bringing it all the way up to the walls to the ceiling – a vision I had from the very first second we thought of the design of our new kitchen. This stone is durable and as strong as it is good looking, I have stood on it to capture images when I am working on food blogs, we splatter every recipe across it and it cleans up just as easily as we dirtied it ;). I have to say it also makes for such a great surface to photograph food on thanks to the suede finish we went with, zero glare back at the camera on in my face haha! Not every designer picks Quartz as their first choice but way more do than you would think, out of every designer I’ve chatted with over 65% of them would recommend quartz over marble – especially for a young family! I asked my friend Madison of Madison Taylor designs what she thinks about quartz.

“ At Madison Taylor we LOVE quartz! With its unmatched strength, durability, variety of options and consistency in look, quartz is the obvious choice for almost all of our design projects! “ – Madison Taylor

A common question we are asked about our stone is what edge we went with, Silestone® is available in 6 different edges finishes for your space. We went with the 2 + 2 edge. This type of edge gives the countertop continuity while maintaining its shock and scratch resistance.

Quartz is my favourite material to specify for busy families who want a low-maintenance, high performance counter surface that will withstand all a family has to throw at it. Add to its performance the wide selection of colours (many designed to mimic the look of marble), you get high style and performance in one. – Lisa Canning

I love how the pot filler behind our range pops against the stone as well as our range, it gives it the perfect clean yet character filled backdrop. I wanted my kitchen to feel like an old French one, we brought our hardwood floors into the kitchen, bought a French range, stuck with our brass accents that could age with character and of course – the vein filled stone to complete the look. We picked a wood top for our island so that the stone perimeter of the kitchen would pop even more, we love the way they contrast and compliment each other! This project was such a labour of love guys – I texted my designer friends every single day second guessing my choices and they always encouraged me to stick to my vision, go with my gut and in the end I did.

FUN FACT: Silestone is STAIN RESISTANT!!! “Silestone is a non-porous surface and highly resistant to staining caused by coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, makeup and many other everyday products.” Hence why we had to get this gorgeous product into our kitchen!
