Travel: Unique Muskoka Cabin

Over the Christmas holidays we had the privilege of experiencing the Cottage Creators unique treehouse cabin in Muskoka as a family. It was a magical experience and we are so excited to share it with you!

Where to Stay

The Waters Edge rental first captured my attention from its viral nets that sit above two spaces in the cabin, you can lounge, sit and lay in these nets while taking in the beautiful lake as well as chat with your family below. This cottage is super cozy with so many fun spaces but you still always feel close and together.

When we arrived the fireplace was on and the owners had Christmas music playing for us, it was so cozy inside. The cabin was decorated for the holidays and there were even some cute holiday crafts and delicious hot chocolate waiting for us. With so many windows in this beautiful cottage we could see that the snow was magically falling all around us outside – it was honestly like a scene in a Hallmark movie. It was an absolute winter wonderland outside!

With only ten days available during our quick holiday visit to Canada, I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to spend quality time together here. We played checkers, card games and enjoyed delicious treats from Bobbette & Belle, an artisanal bakery in Toronto, Ontario. You will see photos in this blog post of the stunning gingerbread house, cookies and cupcakes they sent us for the holidays.

The Waters Edge cabin as an adorable kitchen and living space, 1 bathroom and 4 bedrooms. 2 of the bedrooms have queen beds with an epic view and the other two bedrooms have two bunks in each. There is also a hot tub which was so fun with the snow falling and twinkle lights above us. While our family of 4 is not used to sharing one bathroom, we totally survived. In an emergency, there is always the great outdoors!

The cottage creators family have 3 properties available to rent but we stayed at The Waters Edge, it’s a great spot to go if you have a very large family and you would all like your own space on the same property! You can learn more about all of their rental properties on their website {here}. This cottage is nestled in a private forest and it’s only steps from the water, it’s pet friendly and I hope we make it back in the summer for some kayaking or SUP boarding. The location is stunning and has so much privacy. And did I mention the beds are SO comfortable in this cabin? We had such an amazing sleep every night.

I mean isn’t this space right out of a Hallmark movie? I wasn’t kidding. And these treats were just as delicious as they look, but it felt criminal to take apart that gingerbread house! We admired it for an entire week during the holidays and brought it to two parties, people were swooning over the work. Bobbette and Belle truly make the most gorgeous baked goods! But back to this stunning cabin, how cool are the nets? Craig and I felt like kids again, all of us hangout up there and the kids and I read our books over the living room while dad had a nap by the fire.

How cute are these holiday mugs we found ? You can find them {here} at ClayArtt shop!
Even the pillows scream happy holidays!

Where To Eat

If you’ve been following is for sometime, you know that when we are off to a cabin in the woods – we pack all of our favourite ingredients and we cook. We love cooking together as a family and since we are super conscious of eating healthy, buying our own groceries is always best. At the cottage Craig made his famous shepards pie, I made soup, we had hot chocolates, eggs and avocado toast with a side of fresh fruit and some fresh sourdough bread. We stopped at a grocery store along the way and stocked up on everything we would need for our stay, it was super convenient as the roads were pretty gnarly during our stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware too so you are set if you are into eating in like us.

If you are looking to venture out, one of our favourite nearby grocers for organic food is the Muskoka North Good Food Co-op, you can also find fresh coffee and tea there and dine in for lunch or snacks. Another great spot is The Farmers Daughter for some groceries or freshly baked goods, soups or coffee. If you are looking for a delicious Italian meal, we highly recommend ‘That Little Place by the Lights’. We’ve been going there for years and it is a family favourite! If you are looking for a hairstylist while in the area I highly recommend Emylea, you can find her here on Instagram and she has been doing my hair for over 6 years now – she is local to the Hunstville area.

Had to bust out my Canoe & Lakesweater with this gorgeous lake view.

What To Do

We have wanted to take the kiddos skating at the Arrowhead provincial park for years and we finally did. It is totally worth it! We all had a blast and thankfully we had great weather. You can go online to pre purchase your parking and the park is super informative and easy to navigate. There are a bunch of activities for the family all year round and if you plan your stay ahead during the winter, you can time it with one of their evening fire & ice events. Plan ahead for your park visit {here}.

The Waters Edge property is also stunning, depending on the time of year you could build a snowman, hot tub or play board games by the fire. Catch up on a book, watch movies together, look at the stars, do some yoga or get out on the water.
