DIY gift with Homesense Canada

I hope every one is enjoying the amazing weather we’ve been experiencing, it is finally Spring!! This time of year is when the calendar just keeps filling with events from bridal or baby showers to birthdays, weddings and house warming parties so today we’ve teamed up with Homesense Canada to share a creative and fun #diy gift idea with you. Now this one doesn’t include any homemade items inside so don’t be scared if you are like me and barely have any time to brush your own hair – but you could always add something homemade to the mix if you wish like a family recipe you wish to share or even a card but for me this is a great way to be creative with minimal time to put something together. Better yet, nothing in this gift cost more than $20!!!!!

We filmed this at our new house however we still aren’t moved in (why the space is basically empty lol) but we still thought it would be fun to film there and I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together, the kids loved hanging out and helping. I am working off of little to no sleep lately trying to manage being in between houses and approaching our move in date and I’ve been trying to go sans makeup for most of the week so if I look a little tired…I am, I hadn’t even had my coffee yet- just keeping it real for you guys LOL!

For years & years I have been putting together gifts like this for friends and family with Homesense finds, I am the WORST for following a registry – I simply must get creative and tailor a gift to the event as well as the gift receiver. I may be a sucker for a beautiful wrapping paper but I am also someone who hates the thought of beautiful things going to waste, a beautiful watercolour peony printed paper that cost $12 a roll only to end up in a trash bag? No thank you! So, I love to give my gifts…in the gift! I love this time of year because with the weather warming up it means more outdoor entertaining, the smell of bbq & coppertone in the air. During the other months of the year I love to make these with beautiful baskets that once emptied someone can use to store their favourite throw blankets or I once even found the cutest copper & linen laundry basket that I filled with a beautiful towel set and my favourite detergents and stain removers!

For Spring and Summer gifts like these I almost always go for the ice bucket, I fill it with outdoor dining sets that represent the style or favs of the person receiving them…my last one was for a friend having a bridal shower and she LOVES flamingos, Ella and I spent a good hour in Homesense picking out the cutest (but not tacky) items to fill a beautiful galvanized steel ice bucket with wood handles. She also has a French fiancee whom I have known since my first day of French school (4 years old) which meant we simply had to incorporate the language in there too, enter the most adorable french melamine plates & bowls mixed with a flamingo salt & pepper shaker and beautiful Fleur-de-Lis outdoor friendly pink hued cups. We found so many goodies and I almost re made that one for you guys today BUT we decided to go with something a little different. Let’s say that this gift is perfect for that friend who loves Mexican food or has that oh-so-innocent obsession with cactuses & pineapples – I mean let’s be honest, we all had the bug at some point this year! I found the best birthday card that could go with it that you will see in the video and it was only $2.99, so many of us get caught in that trap of spending close to ten dollars on a card…that could have been like 3 lattes guys!?! If my kids aren’t making the card themselves I am filling my card box with adorable ones from Homesense, they are unique and totally budget friendly and most of the time I can find a pack of ten for less than $5!

A great drink dispenser is always appreciated and I don’t know about you but I LOVE receiving gifts for my home, of course this is assuming that the person buying for me knows my taste lol. I kept this one pretty girly but you can incorporate so many other items into this to make it for masculine if need be – head on over to watch our video to learn more! Homesense is a place we have been shopping for as long as I can remember and this partnership was so fluid, the staff at each of our local stores know us well and are always giddy to hear about what we are up to every time we are loading our carts with goodies. I love finding beautiful items are reasonable prices and Homesense always has every thing I need without breaking the budget, I actually almost ALWAYS leave spending less than I planned to but also with more than I planned on buying too. You can find home decor items, sauces, cookware, the BEST tea towels and blankets…oh gosh I could seriously go on forever! If you visit Homesense.ca you can find a store near you. I cannot wait to share more of these DIY features with you and share our next Homesense haul with you next month!
