DIY Hair Masques

DIY Hair Masques Beauty Hair Hair with Emylea
Hey guys, Emylea here! I’m super excited to share two of my favourite at home ‘do it yourself’ hair masques! As a professional hairstylist, I’ve tried so many different types of masques and we all know that sometimes we can’t find the time to make it into a store to stock up. This is where some of your every day kitchen pantry ingredients can come into play…coconut oil, we all have a tub of this nowadays and this can be a key ingredient in any hair mask! Coconut oil is SUPER hydrating and a simple overnight coconut masque is something I try to do every couple of weeks to treat my hair to some TLC.

I’ve written up the ingredients for my 2 go-to hair masques below, try them out with a girlfriend while watching the Bachelorette or like Roxanne you can have a mommy-daughter spa day since these masques are 110% safe for the little ones too! I actually made these masques at her house and we let Ella help us put them together and we made smoothies with the extra banana & avocado, super fun for every one while giving our hair a yummy treat…I mean don’t those ingredients make you want to whip up a smoothie too!?! As for the amount of ingredients in each masque that is totally dependant on your hair and how many people are using it, for the 2 of us with really long hair and a toddler we used the amounts listed below.

Coco Bananas

2 Bananas

1 Ripe Avocado

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

Mash & Mix

Egg-Tastic

1 Egg

1 Cup Coconut Cream

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

Beat/Mix

And if you are not up for making your own masques – (I mean we all know there is never enough time in a day anymore) – I’ve linked to 5 of our favourite hair masques below that you can find at Sephora!

  1. Gloss Moderne – High Gloss Masque: This masque smells delicious, it’s hypoallergenic AND cruelty-free! It has a higher price point but well worth it!

  3. Drybar – Bay Breeze Hydrating Shots: These single-use shots penetrate the hair to deliver a dose of professional-strength moisture. The treatment rehydrates hair from roots to ends for lasting moisture. This super-concentrated formula also supports scalp health. This product is also cruelty free and the packaging is oh-so pretty!
  4. Agave – Restorative Hydrating Mask: Agave is a soothing hair humectant that provides moisture & shine to the hair. This masque is an intensive reconditioning hair treatment loaded with Agave plant sugars. This product is vegan, hypoallergenic, gluten- and cruelty-free.
  5. Brigeo – Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Mask: Formulated with Briogeo’s unique NOVA Complex, this mask delivers an optimal blend of transformative nutrients from B-vitamins, rosehip and argan oils, algae, and biotin to replenish damaged hair to a shiny, healthy-looking, and lustrous state. This masque is at a great price point and the formula is free of silicones, DEA, and artificial dyes. It is also cruelty-free and is color-safe and safe for use on chemically-treated, relaxed, and keratin-treated hair.
