Bedroom Makeover II

We’ve been anticipating showing you the reveal of all of the hard work spent on the master bedroom of our current home, the transformation it has gone through with METRIE moulding & interior finishings! This has been such a big labor of love and worth every second of the time spent…Ella actually talks about our “new bedroom” every day and how pretty it is which of course makes us so happy because we feel the exact same way! If you had the chance to checkout my inspiration post {here} that talked all of our ideas for trim work and decor you will know why we went with the look we did. This house is our 2nd house, we’ve had two kids since our first home and if you’ve followed along over the years you know that we are doing income properties on the side…so we buy, we renovate and we rent out the home and move to the next one! It’s chaos but I think deep down we thrive off of it? We’ve actually decided to stay and live in this house longer because of all of the work with Metrie that we’ve done, I mean once you see the beautiful built-in mirror we did in the images below…you’ll get it haha! I’d love to tell you it’s my favourite feature of the room but really I am in love with so many details, the ceiling, the gatsby vibe doors, the architraves over the doors and windows…I LOVE it ALL!!!! The original look of the room when we bought this house was so dark, I added one image of it at the end of this post and it when we moved in we noticed all of the details that were poorly done…the trim and casing were wonky and not painted well or dapped well, full of chunks and mistakes. We both despise popcorn ceiling so that was the first of our brainstorming when signing on with Metrie, we searched Pinterest for fun ideas and came across planking a popcorn ceiling…genius! The room is an oasis for us now, we walk in and feel like we are in a different home now. Of course we painted the room once we moved in but we went for a deep blue which after a week we found very obnoxious of a colour, just TOO out there? It was SO blue that we still have to do another coat of white on top of it to really get rid of it lol – that’ll be 5 coats in total. It was almost abrasive…did you know that the colour of the rooms in your home can play a big role in your mood &ย temperament?? YUP! The decor of your home can be the cause or relief of anxiety, and trust me when I say waking up in this room gives me a sigh of relief, especially with how bright it is since we wake up with the sun until we pick our window coverings haha!! Majority of the product we used for this transformation was from the Metrie French Curves line and the doors are from the Fashion Forward line.

I have to include that being a couple that has done a TON of renovations in the years (that we do ourselves), we’re so lucky to be working with such a quality line of moulding and interior finishings…Metrie has truly exceeded our expecations. So much so that we are doing 2 more rooms of the house with them! If you’ve watched this adventure of ours on Snapchat {roxanneawest} you would have seen all of the work on our bedroom and my office so far, next up is the living room and we start it in two weeks! I am so excited to do the living room next, it’s amazing the impact trim & moulding work can really do on a space – especially since this is just a 3 bedroom 2 story home – we do not have 12ft ceilings or 5000 sq ft and my house already feelings like a million dollar home after the work with Metrie. There is a lot you can do aesthetically in your home to increase it’s value or to make it prettier, you don’t need a massive home or to spend 2.5 million to have beautiful spaces. Interior finishings are so much more than just details!

I have to admit that it’s been so hard for me, it’s so conflicting living in a home that you know is just a stepping stone to the next one and that you can only do SO much or invest in so many things to make sure that the property is the income property it was intended to be. We are not flipping and selling, we are renting it – this is not my forever home…I can’t decorate and remodel it as if it is so. It doesn’t make sense financially. But what I can say is that we’ve worked hard on this home to give it the best of furnishings, we’ve renovated and done things that make every space more usable! I can give you a full tour on the blog at a later date but today is about our bedroom :). And where I am going with this is that by investing some time and money into the aesthetics of the space with crown moulding, trim work – wainscotting and beautiful doors we’ve managed to completely change the space into something more high end than your basic builder grade. I can confidently say that when we do move onto the next house and rent this home, whoever moves in is going to LOVE the spaces and the detailed work we’ve done with Metrie. I’ve linked to all of the materials we’ve used in this bedroom at the bottom of this post for you and there’s plenty more images to see in this post as you scroll down!
