Our Mini Moon

A mini moon…a shorter version of your traditional honeymoon and something I will never forget. This was the first time since we had kids that Craig and I actually left over night…and boy have I come to realize just how important getaways as a couple are. We slept in for the first time in years and spent some quality time alone, learning about each other all over again since having kids. We are totally those parents who do everything as a family and it was refreshing to reconnect and come back to our littles all giddy, relaxed and rested. We were lucky enough to spend 2 days and nights at the Couples Resort in Algonquin, Ontario. We really wanted to have a little honeymoon in Canada, some where with outdoor activities yet still luxurious. This resort exceeded our expectations on every level and our room was so amazing that we barely left it! Luckily enough they offer room service breakfast so we could take our time in the mornings, enjoying our coffee (they make the BEST coffee) and the views in our pyjamas! We ate and ate, relaxed and relaxed some more, the only reason why we didn’t return home ten pounds heavier was thanks to the fun activities available at the resort. We went horse back riding and hiking, swimming and canoeing. But yes, about the food…I am still craving some of the meals we had and it’s been nearly a month since we were there! In one of our images you’ll see a warm brie in a flaky pastry with honey…this killed me, I wanted one every day at every meal. They actually have a great organic garden on the property where there amazing salads stem from! EVERY single meal was incredible and the staff is equally amazing. Each staff member we met was happy, courteous and very attentive….they always greeted us with a smile and were so well mannered! We both love horseback riding so we couldn’t wait to head out for an hour trot, the horses are extremely well taken care of by their owner who has a passion for animals and her line of work. It was so refreshing to do an activity with animals that were healthy and happy vs some of the places we have travelled. We were also sent for a hot-stone couples massage and WOW, I fell asleep numerous times which is highly unlike me (I cannot fall asleep around people lol). It was our first time ever having a hot-stone massage and it was incredible…afterwards we enjoyed a sauna & a swim in the lake & pool! In the evening we indulged in tons of exceptional food and extra desserts, we brought our own wine and enjoyed it without worrying about a 6am wake up call. We made friends with another couple during our stay and on our last night after dinner we all sat by the fire, under the perfectly clear sky full of stars and enjoyed talks about family and life before heading back to our room. Our room was awe-worthy with a gorgeous floor to ceiling stone fireplace, a massive jacuzzi and immaculate washrooms with that perfectly ornate touch of decor. I had a stunning vanity inside our washroom with the best mirror and lighting and we even had a hot tub on our private deck overlooking the lake!

We took some time on our last day to meet with the owner John for lunch and chat about the resort, a resort that has been in his family forever and he migrated it into a couples only resort after seeing an opening in the market in Canada. We hit it off instantly while we all chatted about everything from parenthood to entrepreneurship. His staff speak highly of him and he is very involved in the business, he even came down our last night to start our bonfire and chat with everyone to ask how we were all enjoying ourselves. In this business it is always the cherry on top to meet inspiring people and share great conversation. Needless to say, our mini moon was everything we could have imagined and we cannot wait to return there in the winter for a relaxing & luxurious stay paired with some hot tubbing, horseback riding, dog sledding and some over indulging in the food by their talented Executive Chef, Ronnie Coppens…and of course to sleep in!
