Baby Food Menu – The First Year

Baby Food Menu - The First Year Food Recipes Uncatagorized
For awhile now people have been asking me for healthy recipes for their babies being introduced to solids & toddlers, being a stay at home mom with a toddler + my niece who is 3 months older than my daughter I honestly have a blast cooking for them. I know to some it can be tedious and time consuming and you are probably thinking that it’s easy for me-because I am a stay at home mom I have the time, well trust me I never have any time for anything and I make the time for this.
The trick with making the purees is to do a boat load at a time and freeze it, a lot of people make the mistake of making them in small amounts and then find it difficult as they are doing this every few days (remember as they get bigger they need bigger portions). My second tip is to make a variety of vegetables and puree mixtures at the same time and freeze those as well (once your little has a menu of more than one item of course). I exclusively breastfed my daughter until 15 months old and introduced goats milk and introduced solids around 6 months. These recipes are what we used and in no way does it mean it is the only option, there are other items that could have been included on the list but we chose not to introduce them at those stages. In a future post I will put up a compilation of healthy toddler meals for you as well from as early as 12 months!
To make this post easy to navigate I will section it off by age appropriate.

First Foods (6-9 months):
We decided against cereals as a first food for our little one, it truly has no necessity in their diet (based on facts not a biased personal opinion). Many people mistakenly think cereal is the only option for iron for their babies when it isn’t. Here are some of the first foods we chose.

• Avocado (can be mashed with banana)

• Pears steamed & pureed (great for digestion)
• Hard boiled egg yolk *very important to only use the yolk in case of egg white allergy*
• Mango (especially great in frozen chunks in a mesh feeder for sore teething gums)
• Prunes (especially good mixed with hard boiled egg yolk)
• Spinach (can be discreetly mixed into any puree)

These vegetables pureed & mixed with healthy fats like coconut oil:
• Butternut Squash (baked)
• Sweet Potato (baked)
• Carrots (steamed *do not use water from steaming to puree with afterwards, use fresh water)
• Beets (baked)

Seconds (9-10 months):
These pureed and mixed with coconut oil were loved
• Blueberries
• Peaches
• Papaya
• Watermelon
• Peas
• Beans
* Still eating avocado & cooked egg yolk almost every day.

Thirds (10 -12 months):
• Quinoa (boiled in organic chicken broth and mixed with avocado)
• Organic oatmeal (once in awhile)
• Kefir (mixed with cooked egg yolk or alone)
• Zucchini (steamed & pureed and mixed with coconut oil + pear puree)
• Organic Butter (with cooked egg yolk)
• White Fish & Chicken
